Wimbledon 2015

Although not a part of the PE premium, the PE year was finished with a super trip to Wimbledon for seven lucky sporty year 6s and two teachers. Men's final day was experienced by the group, who spent over six hours experiencing live tennis, Henman Hill, the balcony visit by the men's champion Djokovic, the tennis centre and the shops. An unforgettable day.

Sports Day 2015

9th July 2015

Picnic lunch and Sports afternoon was very well received. Parents and carers watched the children participate in sprint, obstacle, field events and relay races to score points for their house. Mums and Dads even raced at the end. After super effort from all children (including wonderful supportive help from Year 6s for the youngest children), Wolsey were declared clear winners. Thanks to Mrs Packard and team who served refreshments and cakes and raised over £160 towards the refurbishment of the old swimming pool area.


7th July 2015

For the second year running we held a tournament for the pyramid schools. three schools travelled to us to play games against each other. A final game was played between Shotley and Tattingstone and Shotley won by just a few points, gained from two catches made. We retain the shield for another year. Well done all.

Tennis: Year 3/4 tournament

June 2015

Four children from year 3 represented the school at Holbrook Academy. They had played very little tennis before and thoroughly enjoyed the event. We came fourth out of 5 schools.


Interhouse Rounders

June 2015

To start the summer's rounders, children from key stage 2 played games of rounders in their houses. Year 3/4 played each other and Year 5/6. Their scores were put together and Constable were winners this year.


Cricket: Level 2 tournament

9th June 2015

Our cricket team progressed through to the semi-finals by scoring the most runs, following the team that won the group, and eventually came 4th over all. Fantastic play and it was great to see everyone improve as the afternoon progressed.

Cricket: Level 1 tournament

1st June 2015

Our cricket team played very well to beat Stutton and progress through to level 2 tournament in Ipswich. Owen won players' player for his play and sportsmanship. Well done all. 

Netball - Level 1 tournament

1st May 2015

The girls y5/6 netball team competed in a competition with Tattingstone school at Holbrook Academy. Both teams demonstrated an excellent team attitude and this was a fun event for all the participants.  The match lasted for 45 minutes with the team having the opportunity to play in all positions.

The match was extremely close with the lead constantly changing.  Congratulations to Tattingstone who took the victory.  Well done to all the girls for an extremely competitive match and fantastic passing and shooting. (All those Monday night training sessions have paid off- Thanks Mollie for the extra coaching sessions and for helping at the competition.)

Start of work for a new play area for playleaders and key stage 1.

Parents and families help clear the old pool area and build a shed base for a new PE shed on a sunny Saturday in April. We are working with FOSS in raising money to resurface the area with recycled tyres.  Thank you to all volunteers. It is good to see the area clear again.

Cross Country

RHS March 2015

We took 4 teams - year 5 and 6 boys and girls and joined 33 other schools to run over 1 1/2 miles. There were approximately 300 runners in each race. Everyone completed the course and ran well. We had some super results including a top ten win for Tyler in Year 6 (6th) and Oliver in Year 5 (4th). The Year 6 team finished an impressive 3rd out of 33, losing out to two larger Ipswich schools. 

Basketball - Level 2 Tournament

Ipswich March 2015

We were a player down but nine children travelled to Inpsire Ipswich to play in round two. We were joint winners of our group stage but lost to Halifax who were eventual winners. We came fourth overall, losing out in a golden ball play-off. We are so proud of the team spirit showed, and to be fourth in South Suffolk is an achievement indeed.

Basketball - Level 1 tournament

March 2015

We took a team of ten to Holbrook Academy to compete against local schools and we are pleased to have won our first level 1 tournament this year. Georgia and Aiden won fair-play awards. Thank you to Holbrook Academy, whose leaders were supportive but rigorous referees. It was good to see some old Shotley faces amongst them

We will be playing in Ipswich on 9th March at Westbourne Academy.

Handball with an Olympian...

February 2015

Louise Jukes, Team GB Handball, visited Year 3-4 and introduced us to handball. The children were very taken with the sport, so much so that 5 are now attending handball club in Ipswich. Following this success, a coach has been booked to help us teach this sport, with a view to taking a Year 3-4 team to a tournament at the end of April.


Interhouse Basketball

February 2015

In preparation for the forthcoming pyramid tournament, and in order to give all children in Key Stage 2 some competitive experience we held our Inter house tournament.

November 2014

Just as last year, we hosted a mixed 5 aside football tournament for the pyramid schools. All the schools attended with two teams each, and the weather held out for a good afternoon's play. Chelmondiston and Shotley played in the final. Shotley were winners and so retain the trophy for a second year. 


Tag Rugby: Level One tournament

November 2014

Shotley took a team to Holbrook Academy for the level one stage and came a very close second to Holbrook, who gave us a great match. The team grew in confidence and were complimented for their great play and were pleased with a try difference of 27. 


Tag Rugby: Interhouse tournament

October 2014

Key Stage 2 played tag rugby one sunny afternoon to find out which house were the strongest tag rugby players. Every child had to play in each game which had two halves, and were responsible for their team choices.

Constable were the eventual winners.


Active Council

October 2014

Elections have taken place and an Active Council has been formed. The aim is that there is a pupils' voice in the delivery of extra curricular PE and activity. Watch out for news of our work.



2014-15 action plan

We will continue to spend the majority of the funding on a sports coach to improve the teaching and learning of PE in school. However, we are building upon last year's work with increased opportunities for children to access PE and sport, as well as raising the profile of PE and quality of space available for teaching and learning.
